AC Rewards is a program administered through your smart thermostat to help manage short-term spikes in demand for electricity on hot summer days.
How the Program Works
When you enroll in AC Rewards we will make small adjustments to your thermostat during periods of high electricity demand, also known as control “events”. These events may occur anytime during the cooling season. If you experience discomfort, you’ll have the option to opt-out of the AC Rewards event using your thermostat or smartphone application at any time and return to your normal thermostat settings. You receive an annual $25 bill credit, please see the table below for availability of one-time enrollment incentives in your state.
Eligibility Requirements
To qualify, you must be a Colorado, Minnesota or South Dakota Xcel Energy residential electric customer with central AC, install an authorized smart thermostat and have a Wi-Fi network. Customers who live in apartments or condominiums are not eligible. Participants enrolled in AC Rewards agree to let us make small adjustments to their thermostat(s) during periods of high electricity demand, also known as "events.“ Customers cannot participate in both Saver’s Switch and AC Rewards. Saver’s Switch participants who choose to switch to AC rewards will no longer receive bill credits for Saver’s Switch and the Saver’s Switch device will be deactivated. Other restrictions may apply.
How Do I Get Started?
Purchase up to two qualifying Wi-Fi-connected thermostats in qualifying states from the Xcel Energy Store with an instant rebate and enroll the thermostat(s) in the AC Rewards program. Your enrollment is completed automatically once your eligible thermostat is installed at home. After your device is installed, you will receive a one-time enrollment incentive and will continue receiving an annual $25 bill credit as long as your device remains enrolled. Please see the table below for availability of one-time enrollment incentives in your state.
